Cryopreservation
Cryopreservation is a process that involves the freezing and “storing” of human cells and tissue at low temperatures (-196°C), using liquid nitrogen. In reproductive medicine, specific cryopreservation techniques (e.g. vitrification) are used to freeze and preserve sperm cells, oocytes, fertilised oocytes and embryos at different stages of embryonic development (e.g. blastocyst).
Thawing and preparation for the associated fertility treatment is accomplished using safe, precisely coordinated processes, undertaken by experienced biologists. The viability and success rate do not differ from those in so-called “fresh cycles“. This means that the chances of a pregnancy are just as good.
